“But in a way you can say that after leaving the sea, after all those millions of years of living inside of the sea, we took the ocean with us. When a woman makes a baby, she gives it water, inside her body, to grow in. That water inside her body is almost exactly the same as the water of the sea. It is salty, by just the same amount. She makes a little ocean, in her body. And not only this. Our blood and our sweating, they are both salty, almost exactly like the water from the sea is salty. We carry oceans inside of us, in our blood and our sweat. And we are crying the oceans, in our tears.”
Gregory David Roberts, Shantaram
I love that quote.
I’ve also been in love with the Ocean since I was a child. It has always been a strong calling.
In the last few years I’ve been lucky to travel and see places where Nature was extremely generous in beauty. I also saw the effect plastic is having on the planet.
Slowly I’ve been changing my lifestyle to try to be part of the positive change. Trying to consume less and choosing products of better quality, that would last longer and have a smaller environmental footprint. Sometimes I could not find good options, so I started Elsewhere.
Our first step is swimwear.
Swimsuits are nearly always made from plastic textiles (nylon and polyester). When these fibers are made from raw materials, it consumes oil and puts more plastic out in the world.
Our products take some of the plastic that is already out there and gives it use. That’s why our fabrics are made from pre and post consumer recycled plastics.
The result is a high quality and high performance swimsuit fabric that we can decorate with beautiful designs. Our process not only uses less raw materials, it also consumes less water and produces less emissions. Our fabrics comply with the Global Recycled Standard.
We hope that within our catalog you will find a swimsuit that you will love for more than one season, that you will keep for longer.
We came from the Sea.
Inspired by Nature. Our designs remind us of the places we are the happiest in. Our materials reflect our respect for them.
Conscious Lifestyle. We use recycled and biodegradable materials as much as possible, in our products and in our packaging. We are always working to reduce our footprint.
Independence. We value the uniqueness in each of us. By being a small brand, we can connect with the community directly. We can have the freedom to do what we think is right.
